  Thanksgiving !!

Hello ! Let's talk about Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is an event celebrated in Canada and the United States of America. We will see its history and how it is celebrated now.

History (The United States)

In year 1620, many british people took the "Mayflower" (a boat that crossed the Atlantic) because they didn't like the separation of the Church and the State. They arrived in America at the end of year 1620, in the state of Massachusetts. But, they arrived too late for the season of  the crops, so they had nothing to eat, and many of them died. The next spring, the Indians "Wampanoag" helped them. They taught the British how to plant, to fish, to pick, to grow cereals, ... When fall arrived, the settlers had many supplies, thanks to the Indians and what they had taught the British. To thank them, the English invited the Wampanoag's chief and his tribe to eat. They went with turkey, pumpkins, onions, fish, ... to thank them to the invitation. From here comes the Thanksgiving meal.

History (Canada)

In Canada, the first Thanksgiving was celebrated by the explorer Martin Frobisher, to thank  God for his protection during his long tourney to the East. Later, other explorers did this tradition, and, over the time, it became an habit and a national event.

Today

Today, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November in the USA, and the 2nd Monday of October in Canada. It's an event wihch is celebrated with the family. For Thanksgiving they mainly eat turkey and pumpkin pie. But, through the time, some other meals were added to the menu, like stuffed eggs, mashed potatoes, pones, apple pie, and some drinks, like beer and apple juice.

 So happy Thanksgiving !!!
